Transylvania University is a well-known liberal arts college in the heart of the city of Lexington, Kentucky. Founded in 1780 and the 16th oldest university in the US, Transylvania is committed to 'Bold Paths.' Join ‘Transy' if you want to be academically challenged and motivated to make a difference in the world. Being in the heart of Lexington, a thriving city of 300,000 people, sets Transylvania apart from most other small liberal arts colleges. It is a moderate-sized city with ample resources, companies and corporations which provides many opportunities for jobs, internships, community service, arts and culture. A concert is just steps away while you're here, and so is the Square for shopping and dining. Lexington also has an opera house close to campus, which hosts several Broadway shows during the year. Keeneland is nearby for seeing the horse races.

Students will pursue their passions and grow their skills through various disciplines, thanks to the university's 46 majors, minors and pre-professional programs. Do you aspire to be a creative person? A professor of art says, "Lexington is a great city for artists and has the culture of larger cities." Transy's academic opportunities pave the way for a rewarding future, and you'll be taught by professors who care about your progress. Creative Writing, Education and Social Change, Business, Sciences, Economics, International Affairs, Music Technology, and Theatre are just a few of the majors available. You can also design your own major to suit your interests. Transy has an 11:1 student-to-faculty ratio, with an average class size of 15, and every major offers at least one study abroad opportunity. A senior says, “Transy is a hidden gem in the South. Having such a quality liberal arts college in an urban city is honesty outstanding.” Transylvania also has engineering collaborations with the University of Kentucky, as well as strong pre-health and pre-law programs.

At Transy, there are over 60 student groups, Greek Life, student-centered programming, community collaborations, foreign experiences, leadership retreats, and more. Their dining experience is unrivalled, with everything for everyone from meal plans to special meals. The “Great Hall,” situated in the heart of campus, is the main dining room, while “The Raf,” the Rafskeller, is a grab-and-go late-night dining choice. Transy dorms are suite-style, with large community facilities and kitchens inside each residence hall. Late-night dining options include cafeterias and snack shops located across the campus. A high school junior mentions: “Transylvania University is a perfect school for students looking for a small on campus experience; a strong community with many opportunities to meet peers, staff, and faculty; all while still being in a bigger city. The class sizes are on average about 15, which is perfect for getting to know classmates and your professors.”

Do you know what Transylvania's most famous tradition is? It's called "PumpkinMania," and it brings thousands of people to campus every year for what has become a Lexington Halloween tradition. There are more than 27 intercollegiate Division III athletic teams on campus, giving Transylvania's Sports Network a solid foundation.
