A sprawling 2,500-acre campus featuring a unique higher education environment with spectacular architecture and modern amenities. Since 2008, NU-Q has offered undergraduate degrees in communication and journalism. With 40+ different nationalities, students gain hands-on global experience through the close interaction of world-class faculty and staff. NU-Q draws from its parent organization, Northwestern University (Evanston, Illinois), a distinguished history, famous programs, and an exceptional faculty. Founded in partnership with the Qatar Foundation, NU-Q provides a framework through which students explore the world and, ultimately, shape its future through its distinguished schools of communication, journalism and strategic communication, and liberal arts.
A space to dream and create, at 515,000 square feet, the Northwestern University in Qatar building is the largest institution of its kind anywhere in the world. Cast against the capital’s skyline, the four-story facility was designed by renowned American architect Antoine Predock. The state-of-the-art facilities offer students the chance to work with advanced media tools and spaces, including a multimedia newsroom, production studios, theaters, an auditorium, and much more.
NU-Q is committed to excellent teaching (8:1 student-faculty ratio), innovative research, and the personal intellectual growth of its students within a diverse academic community. Students receive instruction from renowned faculty as part of a university boasting more than 200,000 living alumni, including countless public figures, statespersons, and societal leaders. As a core part of the school’s mission, NU-Q faculty and students engage in a variety of research and creative scholarship. The NU-Q research office provides support and advice on research methods, grant proposals, and the academic publishing process.
Doha, where NU-Q is located, is a city in motion — a place with ambitious aspirations and opportunities that seem to multiply daily. Over the past 10 years, Doha has emerged as a center for business, culture, sport, and education, as well as an emerging media capital. The city has drawn talented people from around the world — global citizens who have joined in the Qatari vision to grow and transform.
Enrolling at Northwestern University in Qatar makes you a part of the Education City student body: emerging scholars from more than 60 nations attending world-class universities. Students can benefit from neighboring universities, in which they are able to cross-register for courses starting their sophomore year. As a Northwestern graduate, your diploma is identical to those issued to students studying in the United States.
NU-Q offers early action admission, is need-blind, and meets 100 percent of demonstrated financial need.
