Centre College is a private liberal arts college located in the quaint and charming town of Danville, Kentucky. Placed midst 170 acres of lush greenery it is popularly recognized as the ‘Tree Campus USA’. Centre has over 2,000 campus events, 100+ campus organizations and vivacious Greek life. From fitness and recreation to a wholesome learning environment, from modern resources to social and religious life - Centre has it all. Average class size at Centre is 18 and most popular majors especially with international students are Behavioural Neuroscience, Computer Science, Data Science, Economics & Finance and International Studies. Alongside a wide array of majors and minors, Centre also offers multiple pre-professional programs and has Degree Partnerships for Engineering with Washington University-St. Louis, and University of Kentucky. 42% of Centre students participate in art, and culture studies. Another unique offering at Centre is a major in Glass Blowing. Art (Studio) students have access to a glass blowing facility established at Centre campus by a multinational glass manufacturer headquartered in Kentucky. A sophomore at Centre comments “Although the courses here are rigorous, the faculty is very supportive and accessible. On campus, there is a strong feeling of comradeship and community bonding”.
Beginning fall 2020, Centre College students will have unprecedented opportunities to learn about business, entrepreneurism and community development in a hands-on, practical manner thanks to the creation of CentreWorks, a new space for innovation and collaboration. Centre’s incredible EEG lab with advanced equipment is available for undergraduate students majoring in behavioural neurosciences. Community Service is an integral part of the student experience at Centre. Some international students also get a chance to work on campus alongside their studies. All students live on campus with dorm arrangement that is standard and comes along with a meal plan. A junior comments: “usually after first year the dorm options get much more luxurious and there are also housing options adjacent to campus, opted by few”. Centre College also offers campus safety and security services 24/7 for the students.
Centre is considered a big player in the small town of Danville in Kentucky. Adjacent to the campus you will find local businesses, private practices, and regional hospital which helps students land up internships during the academic year. With Lexington and Louisville less than two-hour drive away, Centre students also have access to internships, and other resources that bigger cities have to offer. Outdoor activities like kayaking on local lakes and rivers, spending time at the Central Kentucky Wildlife Refuge, hiking and horseback riding are a big part of the student life at Centre.
Something special about Centre is that all undergraduates are guaranteed- internship, hands-on research experience, study-abroad experience and graduation in 4 years. A majority of Centre alumni go to grad schools for higher education. Recent international graduates are attending Cornell, Carnegie Mellon, BU, Georgia Tech, Johns Hopkins, Columbia University, and NYU to name a few.
