Established in 1853, Cornell College adopted the innovative One Course at a Time Academic Calendar in 1978, recognizing the immense benefits it would provide to its students. This unique calendar structure promotes deep engagement and meaningful exploration. The academic year is divided into eight blocks, with each semester offering four intensive courses. Additionally, an optional ninth block is available during the summer for students seeking extra credits. Professors have unparalleled freedom in designing their classes, providing a diverse range of learning opportunities both on and off campus. While most classes take place in the beautiful campus surroundings, some courses venture beyond, utilizing art galleries or the local state park for a change of scenery.


With an average class size of 16 students, Cornell College nurtures intimate learning communities that foster meaningful interactions with faculty and peers. The comprehensive curriculum encompasses foundational courses, writing-intensive classes, and opportunities to develop essential skills such as quantitative reasoning and intercultural literacy. Students are encouraged to pursue their passions and engage in experiential learning through activities such as leadership development, civic engagement, internships, research, study abroad programs, and involvement in the fine arts.


Cornell College's commitment to global education is represented by its study abroad programs, where select courses travel to various destinations worldwide. From China to Madagascar, Italy to Europe, students have the opportunity to broaden their perspectives and gain invaluable cultural insights alongside their professors and classmates.


The Cornell campus community, affectionately known as the "RAMILY," exudes a sense of familial warmth and inclusivity. Representing 45 states and over a dozen countries, Cornell fosters an environment where strong community bonds are forged. Approximately 93% of students reside on campus. Varsity athletics, Greek life, and performing arts thrive at Cornell, offering students a wide range of opportunities for engagement. With over 80 clubs and organizations, students can explore their interests and partake in diverse experiences. Additionally, every student is assigned an academic adviser who provides guidance and support.
